Simple Goes a Long Way —
Sometimes simple goes a long way.
I’m sure you’re familiar with first baby vs. second baby humor. If you haven’t, let me explain. Typically, first-time parents buy the “best” (often most expensive) baby gear, diapers, food, etc. By the second time around, baby number two is getting “good enough” baby gear, hand-me-downs, etc. It’s a real-life thing. I find it extra hilarious because I’m only on baby number one and I have found that sometimes simple goes a long way. Yes, splurging and buying what you think is best for your child makes all the sense in the world, but most of the time we’re just simply being upsold.
For example, I remember buying the Frida Baby OG SnotSucker for my daughter. She was a newborn at the time and I would have to remove mucus from her nose daily to help with her breathing. Now the OG SnotSucker is a device that worked similarly to how my mom and grandmother used to clean their children’s noses back in the day. They would literally suck the nostrils without any device. (Eww! Not I.) However, the OG SnotSucker uses the same technique but with a device that uses a sponge filter to catch any and all snot. For some reason, I found myself searching Amazon for something “better” (more expensive) even though the Frida Baby worked just fine.
Now on Amazon, I see there are multiple options for me to remove snot from my daughter’s nose. I’m specifically looking at electric nasal aspirators now. Fancy! I come across Momcozy’s electric baby nasal aspirator. It has nine levels of suction, three interchangeable silicone tips, it’s hospital grade, and it even has three different night light settings, and plays music. This thing is top tier. Now, I will say that I believe I went searching for a hospital grade snot remover because my daughter had one used on her in the emergency room (story for another time). So of course, I buy the $54.99 nasal aspirator. It gets delivered. Excitedly, I put it together and use it for the first time. Guess what? Yup, it was just another snot remover. It did the same thing as the one I had before.
I share this long short story with you to say, you can save money if you want. Simple works as well. Admittedly, I did the same thing with tummy time pillows. Mom, you can roll up a towel, place it underneath them, and I promise they’ll do just fine. It’s all up to your choosing. One way isn’t better than the other, but sometimes simple goes a long way. Imagine that!
